Time to get the game face on
Apr 28th
Ok, the season for us starts Friday, so no more small comps. We are getting our game face on and ready to go kick some butt. I can only hope we pick up where we left off last year and improve on that. Friday we will be in St. Joe, Missouri. They have a peoples choice pork loin and pulled pork. $1,000 to the winner. Then it is the regular four category contest.
Congrats to David

We entered the 1st annual Hawgeyes BBQ contest this weekend. Adults had to cook a t-bone and kids had to do a burger. The kids all got medals but only one trophy for first place. And what do you know…David Anderson was the winner. Pretty proud as he did it all on his own. Oh by the way…Dawn finished 4th and I finished 1st. Nice day for the household.
Hawgeyes BBQ / TNT Landscaping
Apr 23rd
Make sure you stop by Hawgeyes BBQ / TNT Landscaping if you are in the Ankeny, IA area on Saturday. They are located just down the street from John Deere. This Saturday they are having a big sale on a lot of product. They are also having a grilling competition. Dawn and I are doing T-Bone Steak and David is in a kids category doing hamburgers. Our turn in times will be 1130. There will be seminars during the day and Smokey D’s (formally Smokin Clones) will be providing a free lunch. These guys are fantastic.
2008 iron egg chef

Well, I came to Oklahoma to help Casey at the iron egg chef challenge
and mission accomplished. First place. More to come.
2008 Season…Let’s get going
Apr 10th
BBQ Season for the dog is just a few weeks away and I am making final touches in preparation for the season. This week I ordered all of my meat ahead of time. Much cheaper by the case. Sometimes a dollar or more per pound. One thing I couldn’t help thinking held us back last year was the quality of meat. Not that it was bad, but it was inconsistent. Like going to get spare ribs and none on the shelf, or briskets that are not thick enough. Well, this year I found a few wholesalers and will be getting nice quality meat. I also have bought two cases of wood, bulk supply of spices and sauce. Saturday Dawn came home with 10 bags of Royal Oak charcoal. I will probably go get another 20 bags. Then we will pretty much be ready. Keep checking back soon as May 2nd is the first competition.
An Okie Smokie Good Time
Apr 10th

Heading out next Friday to Oklahoma City for the 4th annual Oklahoma Eggfest. Leaving Friday and meeting up with Casey, his dad, and Bill from Omaha. We’re going to head down to Oklahoma City for the eggfest. Last year was my first fest and it is a big cookout with people from all over. Then the after party is a lot of drinks and more good eats. The Lowrodz crew from KS might even show up with the potent jungle juice.
Anyway, on Saturday I am assisting Casey with a pizza cooking class. Then we are teaming up for the Iron Egg challenge.
