Hello everyone.  Thank you for coming to the Buster Dog BBQ site.  If you would have told me four months ago I would have a blog and was seriously contemplating entering BBQ competitions I would have laughed at you.  Further, if you told me I would have bought a BBQ at the Iowa State Fair I would have really laughed because I don’t care much for the fair and living in Iowa all my life have never bought anything outside of food and drink there.

Let me back up just a little.  Earlier in the summer of 2006 I was looking for a new grill as our Webber gas grill was just not cutting it.  I like ribs and brisket and found those very hard to do on the grill and felt I was really missing out on smoking with wood.  My wife got an issue of Food and Wine and it had the top 10 grills.  The Big Green Egg was one of those grills listed.  I went to the web site of all those grills.  I really did not know if I wanted to deal with charcoal grills and my wife sure didn’t want to either.  I was able to drag her out to the local True Value hardware to look at them in person.  She still was not sold.   For me it was an opportunity to really put my web research together with the physical product and I started forming my own idea.

So there we were at the fair.  We had no sooner entered the fair and on our path to see the animals, walked past a tent with grills setup.  To my surprise they had the Egg.  Some ag company out of Prairie City was selling them and the dealer was there doing a demo of the Egg and the Holland grill.  He had several eggs going and gave us a few samples.  My wife was now getting a good idea how this whole thing worked.

As we were walking away he told us to be back at noon for ribs because they go fast.  I timed it.  Who can turn down ribs. They fell off the bone and were so good. That was the final straw and my wife agreed to buy.  To top it off (and I really wish I knew this guys name who sold it to us) I got free delivery and a few great accessories.  And it was cheaper at the fair.

As they say the rest is history.
